I know what confidential and public means, but I don’t really understand what a confidential marriage is. Like does that mean in the hall of records people can’t look you up? I also heard that means you’re only married in the county you got married in and not valid throughout the US.

1See http://www.losangelesmarriagelicense.com/confidential-marriage-license.html
When people have been telling everyone for years that they are married they do this.

4There is no such thing as confidential marriage in case of woman. Because she cannot keep her marriage secret, when she becomes pregnant. Marriage cannot be kept secret for long.
In public marriage, everybody knows about the marriage held between boy and girl.

5Very interesting. I never heard of those before. I just checked the site below and it helped me understand a bit.

6Confidential marriages were marriages that were recorded, but were not available as a public record. Public marriage was recorded and immediately available to the public.
In the US today, you can apply for a confidential marriage license, but there is no longer such thing as a confidential marriage. Normally, marriage license applications are published in the county paper, but you can request that it be confidential. Once the marriage has occurred, it becomes a public record, available to anybody. Nevada was the last bastion of confidential marriages and that ended a few years ago (I can’t remember the year, but it was within the last 10).
